<p>Though this private university ranks first in Plexuss ranking, it ranks 6th in its endowment fund. This is because the university in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the United States has historically been more dependent on funding through tuition rather than endowments, as it is catered to middle-class families. Being on top of Plexuss rankings, but lower than others in the endowment ranking, it makes sense that other factors of funding are at work. Though its current <a href=https://plexuss.com/n/"http://news.mit.edu/2018/mit-endowment-financials-0914">endowment fund</strong></a> excluding any pledges towards the school is at $16.4 billion, MITIMCo (a unit of MIT) manages funds totaling $25.3 billion as of June 2018.</p>

<p>Runner-up is surprisingly the public university in Texas. Though the funds are also shared with the entire system, it has surpassed Yale in funds at $31 Billion in the Summer of 2018, which makes it now the second <a href=https://plexuss.com/n/"https://www.star-telegram.com/news/state/texas/article223642325.html">wealthiest university</a> in endowment funds. The reason for the endowment’s sharp increase from previous years is due to the investment and return of boosting oil prices. However, since the entire University of Texas system does have more than 10 times more students than Yale, its endowment per student is much lower. The main flagship institution is at Austin, which currently ranks in the top 30 of Plexuss rankings.</p>
