Tennesse Tech</a>? Congrats, you‘ve made the first of many big decisions on the exciting road before you, and the doors that will be opened before you could very well present you with the opportunities of a lifetime. But first, we got to get you to the doors in one piece! College can be a chaotic time full of the unknown and new transitions, and while a little uneasiness is normal, we‘re here to tell you everything you need to know about Tennessee Tech to calm those nerves and help you to survive and thrive at one of the best universities the South has to offer! So let‘s get after it, starting with getting you into Tennessee Tech in the first place!</p>

<h3>Admissions </h3>
<p>The good news is, Tennessee Tech has a fairly high acceptance rate, but that doesn‘t mean that admission isn‘t necessarily competitive, or that you shouldn‘t be taking care of those entrance exam scores and high school GPAs. If you keep your GPA above a 2.50 and can manage an ACT score of 17, or an SAT score of 910 (Tennesse Tech accepts both!), then you can expect <a href=https://plexuss.com/n/"https://www.tntech.edu/admissions/undergraduates/requirements/">guaranteed admission</a>! That‘s a pretty solid deal meaning you won‘t have to sit around anxiously awaiting an acceptance or rejection letter. Other than that, make sure to have your application and documents submitted by December to keep your ducks in a row and be in the running for scholarships.</p>
<h3>Academics </h3>
<p>One you‘re into TTU, you‘ll get to start taking advantage of all the educational opportunities of one of the <a href=https://plexuss.com/n/"https://plexuss.com/college/tennessee-technological-university/ranking">best universities in the South</a> has to offer. Pro tip, you can knock off some of those more boring required courses before you even step foot on campus by <a href=https://plexuss.com/n/"https://www.tntech.edu/admissions/undergraduates/credit#tab2">getting credit</a> through your SAT/ACT scores as well as Advanced Placement courses. This means less time suffering through English Composition and Micro-Economics with other Freshmen, and more time diving into that well-ranked Computer Science program (should you choose to go that route).</p>
<p>Granted, choosing exactly which route to take in a major could be one of the harder decisions you‘ll have to make, and Tennessee Tech offers no shortage of options with its 40+ undergrad programs to choose from. There is an expected focus on the STEM fields since it is a technical university, however, don‘t discredit <a href=https://plexuss.com/n/"http://catalog.tntech.edu/preview_entity.php?catoid=23&ent_oid=1273&returnto=4535%22>its reputable education program</a> in addition to the traditional opportunities such as the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Business.</p>
<p>Even though Tennessee Tech is a public university, it only boasts around 10,000 students, keeping it in that happy medium with enough variety and size for a complete college experience while avoiding feeling like a remix of High School. This works out really well for academics because you‘ll find your classes rarely grow to more than 20 students. Take advantage of this as it gives you more time to connect with the professors who really seem to be the driving force behind what makes the academic experience at TTU something special.</p>

<h3>Your New Home</h3>
<p>Now that you‘re into Tennessee Tech and safely immersing yourself in an academic discipline, you’ve got to wrap your mind around your new home shared with 10,000 other eager minds. The first step to engaging yourself successfully into your new home at TTU is to do just that, make it your home! For most freshman, this isn’t a hard choice as living on campus is required your first year, but keep a positive attitude about it! Living on campus is a great social experience, and maybe even go the extra step in building community through enrolling in a <a href=https://plexuss.com/n/"https://www.tntech.edu/reslife/living-and-learning-villages/">Living and Learning Village</a>!</p>
<p>What’s next on the to-do list now that you’ve got books and a roof over your head? Food! Tennessee Tech provides an assortment of dining options you’ll want to take advantage of in order to get your grub on! There’s the Marketplace, which is your typical cafeteria style dining with everything from pizza to vegan friendly choices, but when you really want to treat yourself, most students opt for the on campus Chick-Fil-A or <a href=https://plexuss.com/n/"https://www.backyardburgers.com/locations/cookeville-tn-ttu">Backyard Burgers</a>!</p>
<p>Finally, another big question you’ll eventually arrive at when it comes to life at Tennessee Tech is getting around. Will you need your own wheels? Should you grab a longboard, or just count on hitchhiking to class? Well, the good news is TTU has a pretty manageable size at only 235 acres, meaning you’ll be able to walk easily to most places you’d want to get to fairly quivkly, and if the going gets tough there are free shuttles to and from parking areas around campus.</p>

<h3>Your New Community</h3>
<p>Really surviving and taking advantage of life at Tennessee Tech doesn’t just confine itself to the campus boundaries. During your time at TTU, getting off campus and into the greater area of Cookville and beyond is a must! At TTU, you’ll be within an hour or so <a href=https://plexuss.com/n/"https://www.tntech.edu/about/community">of three major cities</a>: Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Nashville, that’s right, the country music capital of the world! If you’re more into the rural scene you’ll also be in a great position to get your mountainous hiking fix in as Cookville itself has its own hidden gems of local parks and is comfortably in driving distance of America’s most visited national park: the <a href=https://plexuss.com/n/"https://www.nps.gov/grsm/index.htm">Great Smoky Mountains National Park</a>!</p>

<h3>Traditions</h3>
<p>Finally, the last, and probably most important, thing you’ve got to be familiar with to survive TTU is the university’s plethora <a href=https://plexuss.com/n/"https://www.tntech.edu/about/history-and-traditions/traditions">of traditions and history</a>. The list is extensive, but here’s the highlights you need to know for starters:</p>
<p><strong>All-Sing</strong>: A very cherished singing competition that gets the whole university in an uproar.</p>
<p><strong>Dammit</strong>: A curse word, or a legendary dog buried on campus. You get to choose depending on the day.</p>
<p><strong>The Fight Song</strong>: Memorize it and expect to sing it loud as you root on the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles in Division 1 Football, basketball, and many other conference sports</p>
